Our process provides end-to-end visibility of your originals from inbound shipping via a secure shipper (UPS and FedEx), through processing, to return shipping of your originals and newly digital memories. We receive, secure and track orders from North America and around the world at our facility in New Jersey. Your original materials and subsequent digital images never leave our facility until they are shipped back to you. We retain a complete digital backup copy, privately for 90 days from return ship date. Our internal control and security systems include best-in-class personnel management practices, privacy, and order management technologies. These include a redundant, multi-layered video monitoring and bar-code logging system that captures and stores all activity and orders. We’ve designed our ordering process to be quick, easy and secure. From our Pricing page, simply select the package that meets your requirements. By choosing the button that corresponds to the selected package, you’ll be prompted to establish an account and automatically transferred to the order form. The order form will default the package you selected and allow you to enter additional packages, options and record special instructions to be included in your order. Upon completing your order, you will be prompted to print 2 copies of the order confirmation.Next, gather and package your original photos, including 1 copy of the order confirmation in the package containing your photos and/or movie film/video tape(s). Send your packaged originals to us via your preferred secure shipper (We recommend UPS or FedEx), noting and retaining the tracking number. It’s that simple, once we receive your shipment we’ll send you email status notifications keeping you informed and documenting the progress of your order.

Standard photographic prints ranging from 2”x2” up to 8.5”x12” printed on conventional photo paper and Polaroid photos. Certain keepsake documents such as postcards, recipe cards, newspaper clippings and personal letters can generally be included provided they are intact, free of mountings and extraneous materials, residue or backings.

If your photos are smaller than 2”x2” and/or of irregular shapes, they can still be scanned as part of your Photo Prints to Digital Package, provided you prepare them as follows. Affix the smaller photos to a standard 3”x4” (or larger) index card using photo-safe double-tape (1 photo per index card). This will enable efficient handling and aide with organizing and secure packaging.

All Photo Prints to Digital Package include an allowance for a limited number of oversized photo prints of up to 11.5” x17”. Beyond the allowance quantity, an additional per scan charge may apply, please contact us for details.

No. One of the benefits of our flat-rate packages is that it makes your job easy. Simply estimate how many photos you have and select the package that comes closest. The package allows you to submit up to the maximum number of photos for a given package. That means you know the exact total cost prior to committing to a purchase. Our flat-rate package model simplifies the process and translates to less hassle for you and translates into savings, without sacrificing quality.

Use the rule-off-thumb of 1” per 100 photos (stacked or filed vertically). A typical shoebox of loose 3”x5” and 4”x6” prints contains approximately 1,000 photos.

If your estimate is slightly off and you submitted more photos than the package you selected, your order is processed without delay – all the photos submitted are scanned and delivered safely back to you in the course of our normal fulfillment process. Similarly, if your estimate is slightly under the package maximum your order is processed without delay and without adjustments for minor variations. All our packages allow you to submit up to the maximum quantity of photos and provide the best value when you come closest to the maximum quantity.

If you submitted significantly more photos than the package ordered, we will contact you with the option to cover the overage with smallest package sufficient to cover the overage, providing you with the best possible value. You may also elect to have us complete the order according to your original selection and incur no incremental fee, returning your photo as submitted.

Generally, we recommend you remove your photos from albums since our service is designed to provide you the best value when you send only photos. This provides for lower shipping cost, fast turnaround and efficient handling.

If you prefer to send albums or have scarpbooks, we have two options:

1. Album Removal Service option – With this option, we will remove standard sized photos from sleeves in albums for scanning. This option is only available for pocket-style, slide-in albums where each photo freely slides out of an individual pocket and is free of adhesives, glue, tape, etc. This excludes scrapbooks and albums that have sticky backings. Photos are returned in new photo archival boxes, the albums are discarded and not returned.
2. Scrapbook & Album Page Scanning option – When photos are permanently affixed to album pages and are not pocket-style albums, this option provides for scanning of the entire album page up to 11” x 17” or scrapbook size 12” x12” (or smaller) and delivers one JPEG image file per page, scanned at 600dpi. When selecting a package by quantity, each album or scrapbook page is designated as 6 photos under this option. Albums are returned with your newly digital images to complete your order.

For albums, estimate the number of photos and select the package(s) that comes closest to the number of photos in all albums. When selecting options, choose the Album Removal Service option or Scrapbook & Album Page Scanning option (which ever applies, one selection per package). Multiple packages can be selected on a single order by clicking “Add to Cart” after a selection is made when placing order online. To add photos not in albums, select the package that comes closest to the estimated number of photos to submit.

For example, for a scrapbook with 80 pages (each page side counted as a page), and pocket-style album with 245 photos to be removed, and 1000 photos not in albums, the order would consist of the following:

Preparing and organizing your Photo Prints for shipment is simple and straight forward. Gather and organize photos into groups of 100 to 200 photos. If possible, group similar size photos in the same group.  While this is suggested to provide maximum protection against the possibility of corners bending during shipment – it is not required. Each group of photos should be placed in a plastic utility bag and sealed.  Original photographic prints and Polaroids may range in size as described above (questions 1 & 2) and must be free of any backing or mounting materials (original photographic paper only).  Pack tightly in larger box(es) while protecting from moisture with a single layer of bubble wrap or plastic inside the shipping box and additional packing material as necessary to protect during shipment.  Please DO NOT use packing peanuts as they may introduce dust into our dust-free environment.

If maintaining sequence is required, be sure each group is arranged so that the top is the first photo and each group is tagged with a sequence scheme (e.g. A, B, C.. 1,2,3, etc).  You may further organize your collection by placing a titled index card, as the first of a group (1 for every 100 photos will not be counted against your scan total quantity).  The sequence and groups, along with the title index cards (e.g. “1975 Grand Canyon Trip”, “50th Anniversary Party”, etc.) will provide organization by position.  Be sure to request we maintain order in your online order comments field.  There are no restrictions on the JPEG image files you receive from FotoBridge – you can rename, duplicate, edit, reorganize, folder, tag etc. once the files are copied to a computer.

Dots per inch (dpi) is a term used to describe the size of a printed image on a physical medium (e.g. paper). The term is widely used interchangeably with the digital equivalent terms “samples per inch” (spi) and “pixels per inch”(ppi) which influence digital image quality, as a measure of size (in pixels). Typically, scanning equipment manufacturers use dpi to indicate the final pixel size of a scanned image. For example, a 4 in. x 6 in. print scanned at 300dpi will produce an image 1200×1800 pixels in size. The same print scanned at 600dpi will produce an image 2400×3600 pixels in size.

All photo print packages include 300dpi as standard. If the options Platinum or Scrapbook & Album Page Scanning are selected, 600dpi scans are delivered. Generally, 300dpi scans are sufficient for online sharing and reprinting at the original physical size of the photo print. Our Platinum option is recommended when larger files are needed to reprint up to 2x the original physical size of the photo print or when creating photo books or other photo products from your newly digital images.

Generally, yes. Negatives contain nearly all the visual information captured by your camera and is therefore the best medium from which to create digital images. Photo prints are a subsequent generation and have likely been adjusted to exclude some image information for the printing process. Therefore, negative scans provide the best opportunity for high-quality, archival scans that will provide the most versatile and robust images for preservation and future uses.
Scanning photo prints offers an economical way to preserve your memories, especially when the original negatives are not available. The results are often very good and are generally more than sufficient for viewing and sharing online. Whether you choose to have your prints or negatives digitally preserved, both FotoBridge services include the benefits of our proprietary image optimization approach designed to restore faded colors accurately, improve exposures, eliminate red-eye, and deliver the best possible digital image from your originals.

Text Note Archiving is an optional service, available on all print-to-digital packages. If you purchase this option, we will scan both sides of your printed photographs and store any text notes or other marks from the reverse side of the print for archiving and informational purposes. The resulting image containing text will be associated with the photo image through sequential file names. For example, the reverse side Text Note image of photo image IMAGE130 will be IMAGE131. Only Text Note image files that contain content will be captured and saved, therefore the number of Text Note image files will only equal the number of photo image files if every original photo contains content on the reverse side.

The JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group) format is the most popular and versatile digital format in use. Nearly all digital image devices support this format. Cameras, digital photo frames, printers, photo kisosks, online personal photo gift providers, mobile phones to name a few all support JPEG. Similarly, photo related services like digital printers, online hosting and sharing sites, online forums, blogs, scanning and restoration services all use and support JPEG.

Although computers make sorting, organizing and locating specific images among hundreds or even tens of thousands of digital photos fast and easy, sometimes touching and seeing a physical reference when looking for photos is just as satisfying.
The Index Print is a high-quality, durable printed and bound album containing thumbnail images of all your newly digital photos. Index Print pages are portrait orientation, double sided and contain 25 photos per page side. Under each photo is the corresponding file name as stored on your DVD(or CD). The bound Index Print ranges from about 5-10 pages for smaller packages up to 100 pages for larger collections. Extremely large collections may include several volumes of Index Print albums. So if you think you would enjoy perusing your one-of-a-kind, now digital photo collection in a more “hi-touch” fashion, you may consider the Index Print option.

One of the things people often discover first is the pure power and emotional gold mine of a simple, produced digital movie traversing decades of family history and significant personal events. That’s why we decided to offer the TV DVD SlideShow Movie option as a companion product for all of our scanning packages. From special events such as anniversaries, birthdays, wedding celebrations, and class reunions to travel logs and stirring family histories spanning generations – the TV DVD Movie is a must have for many.
With the TV DVD SlideShow Movie option, you receive an additional DVD disc that automatically plays on any DVD equipped TV or computer. Set to the music you select, the movie is an enjoyable way to view and share your images, memories and stories – especially with friends and family that don’t use computers, yet have TV DVD players. Each movie can include up to 1,000 images (this option on Scanning Packages greater than 1,000 photos will include more than one TV DVD Slideshow Movie Disc). Musical selections include tracks our artists select within the categories you prefer such as classical, jazz, 60/70s mix and oldies or the tunes you provide on CD.

These packages cover any combination of slides (35mm, 110, and 126 in 2”x2” mounts), 35mm negatives (in rolls or strips), and APS (Advanced Photo System, e.g. Kodak Advantix, FujiFilm Nexia, et al. cartridges containing developed negatives.)

Slides and negative sizes not listed above are covered under our Special Format packages.

We process all the slides and negatives you send and will scan up to the maximum for the package you ordered. If there are negatives you wish not to have scanned on strips or rolls, you may cut those from the film and not included those in your order. Be sure that all remaining negatives are at least two continuous frames – single frames may incur a small additional charge.

For slides in standard cardboard or plastic mounts, use the rule-off-thumb of 25 slides for 1 inch (stacked or filed vertically). Negative strips typically contain 6 frames per strip while rolls are usually 36 or 24 frames. APS cartridges are 40, 25, or 15 frame lengths.

No. If you can’t quite get motivated to empty those old slide carousels and trays or don’t want to remove your slides from sleeves or slide pages in a book, you may choose the Carousel & Tray Service package option. With this option selected, we will process slides directly from your carousels, projector trays, and slide pages when you choose this optional service. We remove your slides, scan them and return both the slides and carousels, pages, trays (separately) with your new digital images.

Don’t want the carousels back (slides alone store in about 1/10th the space)? Simply enter “keep carousels” in your online order comments field when placing an order.

This service is required for any method of storage and transport that stores slides individually (requiring individual removal for scanning).  Examples include slide pages, trays, sleeves, cartridges, and carousels. Slide “magazines” that contain individual metal sleeves (such as the Argus and Airequipt magazines) are excluded, slides must be removed from individual sleeves prior to shipping to FotoBridge.

When sending slides in carousels, keep in the original boxes and pack tightly in larger boxes while protecting from moisture with a single layer of bubble wrap or plastic inside the shipping box.

Removing slides from carousels, trays, slides pages and cartridges allows for effective  organization and efficient shipping. But prior to packing, we suggest you determine if image file sequence and ordering are important on the media (DVD/CD/Mobile Drive, etc.) you receive from FotoBridge. Keep in mind, once you receive your newly digital photos you can copy them to your computer, make multiple backup copies and rename, re-sort and reorganize your digital images using a variety of methods and tools.

If initial image sequence is important, organize slides in groups of 50 to 100 slides and assign a value and/or a short description to each group. We suggest the values and descriptions you select naturally sort to the order you desire. For groups of 50 or more slides, FotoBridge will create the image file name based upon the values/descriptions (25 characters or less) you assign. For example:

“01 1969 Grand Canyon 001”,    “01 1969 Grand Canyon 002”, ……….    “01 1969 Grand Canyon 051”

Tagging groups and indicating a start slide (or “top”) for each group is all that’s required. Groups can be bundled with rubber bands and placed in plastic bags or loosely placed in plastic bags with a tag per bag. Empty foil or wrap cartons can also be used to easily sequence and tag slides. Sequencing and file naming requires documenting the request in your online order comments field when placing your order online.

All slides and negatives packages include 2000dpi as standard, which produces high quality images for viewing and sharing online and is suitable for printing images up to about 6” x 9” (at 300dpi print output). If your original slides and negatives are in excellent condition, were shot with professional equipment or you plan to print enlargements up to about 12” x 18”, upgrading to 3000dpi or 4000dpi will likely produce the most versatile, archival digital image. For Slides and Negatives, we also offer a “TIFF Pro Option”. When selected, we will deliver both JPEG and TIFF files. These TIFF files are minimally processed images for professional photographers that plan on editing the scanned images themselves. These files will often appear ‘flat’ and lack the contrast of the JPEG files that have been enhanced and color corrected for viewing. The TIFF Pro Option includes a Mobile Drive (excludes 250 package) with the necessary capacity to store and transfer the significantly larger TIFF images.

Our simple, flat-rate Video Tape-to-Digital Packages cover any combination of these formats:

• VHS & S-VHS cassettes are 7 3/8 inches wide, 4 inches deep, 1 inch thick (187mm x 103mm x 25 mm. It was first introduced on June 4, 1977.
• VHS-C is the compact VHS format introduced in 1982 and used primarily for consumer-grade compact camcorders. Approx. 3 1/2 inches wide by 2 1/4 inches high (92 mm x 58 mm).
• Betamax is a home videocassette tape recording format developed by Sony, released on May 10, 1975. The cassettes contain 1/2-inch (12.7mm)-wide videotape and measures 6.14 inches (156mm) by 3.77 inches (96mm).

Packages cover up to a maximum quantity of tapes (up to 10, 20, 30, 50, 75, 100 tapes). For a single tape or quantity less than 10 tapes, select “1 Tape” (first column) and indicate the specific number of tapes to be digitized in the quantity field when entering order online. The maximum number of tapes per package is based upon 2 hours of run time per tape. Therefore, 5 (five) tapes that each contain 4 hours of content require a Video Tape 10 Package (20 hours of runtime (5 tapes, 4 hours each) divided by a standard tape run time of 2 hours equals a Video Tape 10 Package. Packages include professional high-quality digital capture of up to 2 hours of content per tape (e.g. 3-4 hours of content on a single tape = 2 tapes). Audio capture and enhancement. DVD(s) video disc (DVD-R) playable on virtually all commercially available DVD Players. Platinum Package upgrades include a 320GB -2TB Hard Drive containing uncompressed AVI file(s) suitable for editing and further modification either directly from the included 320GB-2TB Hard Drive or from files transferred to PC.

Each DVD disc can hold up to 2 hours of high quality video. The uncompressed AVI file(s) or MOV(s) delivered on a hard drive included with the Platinum option are typically about 16GB for every hour of video.

Group and organize by type (VHS, S-VHS, VHS-C, BetaMax, Video 8, Hi8, Digital-8, and MiniDV) and number in the sequence to appear on DVD/Drive. Protect the tapes together with any other media (prints, slides, negatives, movie film, etc.) you include for the order with packing material and place in shipping box. Prior to sealing your package for shipping, be sure to print and include one copy of your online ORDER CONFIRMATION inside the package. Once packaged, select your preferred carrier (with package tracking) and send to FotoBridge per instructions on you Order Confirmation.

Our simple, flat-rate Movie Film-to-Digital Packages apply to 8mm, Super8mm, and 16mm movie film. Packages cover up to a maximum quantity of film, measured by linear feet (up to 250′, 500′, 1000′, 2000′, 3000′, 5000′, 10000′). The table below provides guidance for estimating linear feet by reel size: Reel Size, Linear Feet, 8mm Run Time (Approx.) and 16mm Run Time (Approx.) 16mm will be transferred at the proper speed.

16mm variable in reel size (hubs vary) and in fps 18 – 24 (how it was shot) 2000′ can = a 15 inch reel.

NOTE: Some original 8mm film boxes are marked as 25ft, this is likely double roll film that required flipping of a 16mm roll to shoot 50ft of an 8mm movie. During processing, the film was split down the middle and spliced to make 50ft of 8mm movie film.

Our Packages include complete inspection, cleaning, standard repairs, professional high-quality digital capture, standard edits, audio capture, standard background music (easy listening, for film without audio), title, enhancements and necessary adjustments needed to produce superior clarity and true-color restoration. Every package also includes FREE return shipping.

All standard packages include DVD(s) video discs (DVD-R) playable on virtually all commercially available DVD players and DVD equipped computers.

Platinum Package upgrades include a 320GB -1TB Hard Drive containing uncompressed AVI file(s) or MOV files suitable for editing and further modification either directly from the included 320GB-1TB Hard Drive or from files transferred to PC/MAC (Specify PC or MAC)

What are the sizes of Platinum option uncompressed AVI files? Each DVD disc can hold up to 2 hours or about 1600 feet of 8mm, 2000 feet of Super8mm or 3200 feet of 16mm film (variable for 16mm). The uncompressed AVI file(s) delivered on a hard drive included with the Platinum option are typically about 5GB for every 300 linear feet of 8mm film or 2.5GB for every 300 linear 16mm film

We suggest scanning 110 and 126 negatives at 4000 PPI (DPI), although the images may not dramatically visually benefit from the increased resolution, 4000 DPI assures us that we have captured all the detail in the small negatives.
